  • Incredible authentication problem with my svn server!!

    Hi everyone,
i configured my 4th server with subversion but this time i got an amazing authentication error.
I checked apache error logs and it says this:
(13)Permission denied: Failed to load the AuthzSVNAccessFile: Can't open file '/etc/httpd/svnpasswd': Permission denied
The amazing thing is that svnpasswd file has permission 777.
The only difference with other servers is this time i'm using centos instead of mandriva distro.

    Any idea?

Hi and thanks for your help,
both passwd file and access file are apache:apache owner and 777 permission.
In the while i changed passwd and access file location to /svn/passwd and /svn/access.

This is my subversion config file:

        <Location /svn>
        DAV svn
        SVNParentPath /home/svn

        # Limit write permission to list of valid users.
        #<LimitExcept GET PROPFIND OPTIONS REPORT>
        # Require SSL connection for password protection.
        SSLRequireSSL

        AuthType Basic
        AuthName "Subversion Repository"

        AuthUserFile /svn/passwd
        AuthzSVNAccessFile /svn/access

        #<LimitExcept GET PROPFIND OPTIONS REPORT>
        Require valid-user
        #</LimitExcept>
        </Location>

And the error i get from apache is:
[error] [client 192.168.1.4] (13)Permission denied: Could not open password file: /svn/passwd
[error] [client 192.168.1.4] access to /svn/work_repos failed, reason: verification of user id 'MYUSERNAME' not configured

        Hope you can help me...
        Thanks a lot

Re: Incredible authentication problem with my svn server!!

          Hi,

has anyone found a solution to this problem? I have identical setup and get the exact same error message, and I
have even checked that the apache user is able to read this file (by su -s /bin/sh apache "less /svn/access").

I get this problem on Centos 6.2 x64, but did not get it on Centos 5.7 x86.

I am a bit stuck here, should I go back to a 32 bit CentOS?

          best regards,
          Svein Brekke

Maybe the issue is with the owner/permissions of the /svn directory?
