TortoiseSVN Project at Subversion Live

Open Source Project Leads for Premier Subversion Client for Windows to Present at US and UK Conferences in February, 2011

San Ramon, CA September 2, 2010 – WANdisco, the makers of Enterprise Subversion with active core developers from the project on staff, is pleased to announce that the lead developers from the open source TortoiseSVN project have agreed to participate in the upcoming Subversion Live conferences taking place in the US and UK during February, 2011. In keeping with the theme of the conferences, "Subversion 1.7 and the Way Forward", they will present and demonstrate TortoiseSVN 1.7, the latest version of this widely used client for Windows. WANdisco supports and sponsors TortoiseSVN as part of its support of the Subversion open source project.

"We are delighted to have the TortoiseSVN project on board for Subversion Live," said David Richards, President and CEO of WANdisco. "Along with support for all of the new Subversion 1.7 capabilities, TortoiseSVN 1.7 will have significant new features of its own that users have been asking for. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn firsthand how to get the most out of TortoiseSVN 1.7 from the developers who built it."

Along with support for Subversion 1.7's new HTTPv2 protocol, WC-NG (Working Copy-Next Generation) enhancements and other capabilities, TortoiseSVN 1.7 will have a number of new features that will make this popular Subversion client for Windows even easier to use.

Highlights:

  • Icons for Commit, Update, Check for Modifications and Show Log will automatically appear for Subversion folders at the top of Windows Explorer Tree and List Views.
  • Internet search engine-like functionality will enable faster log searches and highlight matches in the log viewer.
  • In TortoiseMerge, users will be able to double-click on a variable, API call, or any string and every place where that string appears will be highlighted, making code reviews easier.
  • Dialogs will be available to set file properties so users don’t have to know the Subversion syntax.
  • When commits fail due to update conflicts, a pushbutton will trigger an update and restart the commit dialog automatically with all of the user's selections and settings intact.

"We're really excited about taking part in Subversion Live," said Stefan Küng, Lead Developer for TortoiseSVN. "The opportunity to get immediate feedback and exchange ideas with developers and others who use the client every day is extremely valuable to us in setting the project’s direction."

  • "Subversion Administration Best Practices" on October 6, 2010. This training session will cover every aspect of Subversion administration including: defining policies and procedures, training and managing staff to ensure compliance, designing repository layout, backup and recovery, use of hook scripts and locking, and log monitoring and analysis.

Attendees will learn how to implement hook scripts for email notification of events, commit validation, integration with issue trackers and other external systems and other common use cases.
