We have just announced enterprise support services for uberSVN and there is plenty more to come! WANdisco is planning some major announcements at open source conference OSCON in July so stay tuned as we continue to ramp-up our commitment to Subversion. Why not complete our uberSVN survey and get one of our new t-shirts.

Red Herring recognition as a leading tech startup

Red Herring has recognized WANdisco's innovation in the technology sector, with listing in their Top 100 for private companies in North America. Red Herring's Top 100 North America list has become a mark of distinction for identifying promising new companies and entrepreneurs. Red Herring editors were among the first to recognize that companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Skype, YouTube, and eBay would change the way we live and work. Alex Vieux, publisher and CEO of Red Herring, said: "After rigorous contemplation and discussion, we narrowed our list down from hundreds of candidates from across North America to the Top 100 Winners. We believe WANdisco embodies the vision, drive and innovation that define a successful entrepreneurial venture. WANdisco should be proud of its accomplishment, as the competition was very strong." SVN 1.7 pre-release heralds the way forward

The highly anticipated release of Subversion 1.7 is almost here. Successful open source projects need active participation and feedback from their user community and this is particularly important for SVN 1.7 right now because of the enhancements to client-side performance and new client tools. Subversion 1.7.0 alpha-1 is now available for user testing, paving the way for the following improvements:

  • HTTPv2- a protocol rewrite designed to enhance performance by reducing the number of round trips between the client and the server with every request.
  • WC-NG – a rewrite of the working copy library that enhances performance by centralizing metadata storage and provides a foundation for supporting features such as shelving and offline commits in future releases.
  • svnrdump - a new client tool that provides the same functionality as svnadmin dump and svnadmin load, but on remote repositories. There’s no need for administrator access to the source or target repository on the remote server’s filesystem.

A comprehensive list of new features is hosted here [http://subversion.apache.org/docs/release-notes/1.7.html] and you can download SVN 1.7 now http://www.wandisco.com/subversion/download/1_7-alpha. Our director of Open Source, Hyrum Wright has also provided his authoritative blog http://blogs.wandisco.com/2011/06/13/the-first-alpha-and-the-subversion-release-cycle on this major new release.
