WANdisco outlines branching and merging investment, new website now live and previewing Subversion Live

Festive frolics and the way forward
David RichardsFirst of all, on behalf of WANdisco I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! We hope it will be a prosperous and rewarding 2011 for you. As you may expect we had a pretty interesting festive period, following my blog in late December http://blogs.wandisco.com/2010/12/20/shaking-up-subversion-by-listening-to-the-user-community-and-then-committing-to-do-the-work/ on our plans to advance the Subversion open source project. My comments on taking a lead on fixing and improving features like branching and merging seem to have polarised the software change management community and have certainly caused a stir in our industry. Reflecting on that blog http://blogs.wandisco.com/2011/01/04/110/ it is clear that we have a lot of support for what we want to achieve with Subversion and our pre-Christmas pledge was little more than an extension of our longstanding and unparalleled commitment to the Subversion community. So, we've said we're going to develop Subversion and that project has already started in earnest. Detailed planning is well underway and our investment in the Subversion community will see WANdisco staff dedicated to branching and merging this year. WANdisco's Vice President of Product Management, Rob Budas, has already started blogging on the branching & merging project soon so stay tuned!

David Richards, CEO and President

SVNForum.org joins the WANdisco Stable
Subversion Community Last week we announced that we completed the acquisition of the biggest Subversion user community. With over 20,000 active users SVNforum.org is a gold mine of information about Subversion. One of the first things we did was to improve the forum software and stop the awful spam that seems to plague forums these days. Registration is completely free, swing by and pay us a visit there sometime.

A Late Christmas Gift
Subversion LiveThe Hidden Subversion Webinar saw a record turn out that ran into thousands of registrations. We also had a record number requesting further information, follow-up or slides. We have decided to introduce a brand new and, as is traditional from WANdisco, completely free offering we are calling SVNREF Cards - a library of free cheat-sheets for developers based on our highly acclaimed training webinars. The first installment is a free download that you can grab here: http://www.wandisco.com/training/reference-cards/hidden-subversion. Everyone who registers for a webinar will automatically receive a free SVNREF Card for that session. If you miss a session, don't worry. You can register and download SVNREF Cards anytime.

New website now live
Subversion CommunityWANdisco has a fresh online look for 2011 with our new website going live in the first week of the New Year. With all the familiar features and resources you will have been used to we have been working hard to improve the functionality and presentation of www.wandisco.com . Check it out now - we'd love to hear your feedback as we aim to make the site as user friendly as possible. Of course, all the vital resources you need will continue to be available from www.wandisco.com first - with the likes of free certified binaries, free community support and the latest news on our involvement with Subversion.

Subversion Live is next week!
Subversion SupportIf you are serious about Subversion then we look forward to seeing you very soon... our exclusive one-day conferences in San Francisco, Boston and London. We have a number of household names attending Subversion Live including General Electric, Motorola, Oracle, AT&T, ESPN, Siemens, Juniper Networks, BT and Ericsson, so you will be in good company for an in-depth account of the latest developments within the Subversion project. The next major release, SVN 1.7 will be presented by core developers from the open source project along with serious discussions on enhancements to branching and merging. With sessions for developers, administrators and IT managers these conferences in the US and UK are a must for anyone serious about Subversion and there is plenty of value packed into these intensive conferences. If you haven't yet registered time is running out but places are still available at http://www.wandisco.com/events/subversionlive2011/. Better yet, here's a 20% discount voucher WANDMRX250SVNLIVE to use when you register.

Free online training courses continue in 2011
Subversion LiveFollowing our first year of free Subversion training courses with trainer Mike Lester, we will be doing the whole thing again in 2011 after some very positive feedback. In addition to repeating favorites such as 'Introduction to Branching and Merging' (January 26) and 'Subversion Administration Best Practices' (February 23) we will be offering new courses including 'Advanced Branching and Merging' (February 9) - building on 'Introduction to Branching and Merging' - and 'Advanced Subversion Administration' on March 9 - exploring how properties, hook scripts and reporting can be used to enforce standards and assist in managing a development team using Subversion. With four decades of experience in the software industry, you'll struggle to find a more qualified instructor than Mike! Space is limited, register early at: http://wandisco.com/webinar/subversion/training

Let us support your Subversion implementation
Subversion SupportDon't forget that every WANdisco Subversion support contract helps grow your Subversion community. Our legendary support services include 24-by-7 support and case tracking, unlimited case allotments and named support contacts so that you know where to turn for assistance regardless of what time of day it is, what time zones you operate in, or where in the world your staff are located. With the most core developers from the project on staff, WANdisco is uniquely qualified to deliver support services that eliminate the risks of implementing an open source solution such as Subversion from both a business continuity and a legal perspective. We offer indemnification coverage that protects our customers from intellectual property claims that can arise from the use of open source software. And, as you probably know by now, our profits from support contracts are reinvested into the Subversion community by placing WANdisco developers at the heart of the project, ensuring it stays at the forefront. This is part of our commitment to being a good corporate community citizen and illustrates our unwavering devotion to keep improving Subversion.
