A serious WANdisco pledge this Christmas
As many people prepare to wind down and gorge themselves on festive foods in the coming days, we thought we would deliver some of our own special Christmas gifts to out loyal friends, customers, partners and Subversion users.
 
First off we have pledged to complete a radical overhaul of the Subversion project. If you have followed our business in recent years you will know that we have been highly committed to investing in the Subversion community. But sometimes you have to hold your hands up and admit things aren't going quite as you would like. Branching and merging has been an issue for too many of our users and that's why we are going to fix and improve the aspects of Subversion that users have been crying out for.
 
We are not doing this for direct commercial reasons. We are doing this to protect the future of Subversion. We are doing this because we care. We are doing this because we need to. We are doing this because it is the right thing to do.

WANdisco offers new free online training courses for 2011 as our gift to Subversion users
2010 saw the launch of our free Subversion training series with our superb trainer Mike Lester. Such was the demand and gratitude we received that we have decided to do the whole thing again in 2011.
 
In addition to repeating some old favorites in 2011 including "Introduction to Branching and Merging" on January 26th and "Subversion Administration Best Practices" on February 23rd, WANdisco has added a number of new free online training sessions as our Christmas gift to Subversion users:

• "Hidden Subversion" on January 12, 2011. This session will cover powerful, but relatively unknown Subversion features that enable users to determine which branch a working copy belongs to, find out where a branch came from, revert commits, perform pattern matching on ignore lists, make log messages more useful and selectively update repositories.
   
• "Advanced Branching and Merging" on February 9, 2011. This session builds on the "Introduction to Branching and Merging" webinar with a focus on best practices and branching and merging strategies for group development. Effective use of mergeinfo, tracking merge history, avoiding duplicate merges and merge conflict handling will also be discussed.
   
• "Advanced Subversion Administration" on March 9, 2011. This free training session will build on the material covered in the "Subversion Administration Best Practices" webinar. Attendees will learn how properties, hook scripts and reporting can be used to enforce standards and assist in managing a development team using Subversion.

All of these courses are taught by WANdisco's Director of Subversion Training, Mike Lester. Mike has more than 33 years of experience in the software industry, having spent the past ten years focusing on training and consulting for Subversion and other software configuration management (SCM) systems.
