Responsibilities:
Actively promote Subversion best practices within the WANdisco customer base for
o Apache Subversion configuration
o Repository layout
o Branching and merging strategies
o Configuration of Continuous Integration tools
o Integrating with issue tracking tools
Plan and assist migrations for customers' source code repositories from older versions of Subversion and other CM Tool onto the latest version of subversion, developing new tooling to achieve this if required.
Plan and assist deployment projects for WANdisco Enterprise Multisite and Clustering products, from initial architecture specification through to Go-Live.
Champion WANdisco's Subversion user community within the WANdisco organisation, feeding back product requirements to Engineering, QA and the Subversion commiters.
Mentor the support team in resolving the more challenging Subversion issues encountered by customers.
Be able to accurately and completely document problems, their solutions, and defects in the Web based help-desk system and the internal Engineering issue tracking tool.
Provide written/verbal consultation to debug customer problems. Determine if the reported problem is a WANdisco product or a customer issue.
Contribute to WANdisco Blogs, Social Media activities, Industry discussion groups/communities/forums for the benefit of knowledge sharing to the world wide Subversion community and for the purpose of maintaining WANdisco's excellent public profile.
Requirements:
Proven experience of administering Subversion and CVS repositories, including the ability to write, deploy and debug triggers.
Strong knowledge of Apache in the context of its use with Subversion, using LDAP/Active Directory authentication.
Proficiency in UNIX, Linux and Windows operating systems to the level required to install and configure Subversion and other applications. This includes changing kernel/system configuration settings.
Must demonstrate excellent UNIX scripting skills. Knowledge of other scripting/programming languages desirable, e.g. perl, python, batch.
Working knowledge of Virtualization Technologies such as Oracle VirtualBox, VMWare VSphere ESX/ESXi, Citrix XenCenter.
Solid understanding of network architectures and protocols (TCP). Familiarity with tools required to inspect network packet captures.
Knowledge of at least two of the following configuration management tools, within the context of migrating to Subversion, is essential:
o IBM Rational Clearcase
o CVS
o Perforce
o Borland Starteam
o Synergy
Ability to work both independently and as part of team, directing others as well as contributing technically to diagnosing problems and providing solutions.
The candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, along with outstanding analytical, troubleshooting and debugging skills.
